To thine own self be true!

Me in the midst of my college art days...2003

This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!

-Hamlet Act 1, scene 3, 78-82

I’ve been thinking about being true to myself. Lately, I’ve been trying to do things that are not true to me. In the way I dress, the way I show up to other people, in business, and so much more. I thought I could be a life coach…wrong! I thought I could be a teacher of sorts…wrong!

The book that has inspired these thoughts is, Dressing Your Truth, Discover Your Personal Beauty Profile. You see, Carol Tuttle talks about  how we need to dress according to our beauty profile or in other words our true personality and energy script. It’s more than just looking great, it’s making our outer world match our inner world, truly being our true selves!

So… my thoughts on the matter… Not only is the outer world a reflection of the inner world, but the inner world also becomes a natural reflection of the outer world. So not only does being true to myself in dress, in my space, and in my actions improves my inner world. But also improving the inner world -my mental state, emotions, energy, and vibration… my outer world becomes a natural reflection of that. It goes back and forth, working together, either progressing perfectly or going in a downward spiral.

So all this makes me want to be true to myself inside and out and to inspire others to be true to themselves by making their space (Or the art on their walls) truly reflect who they really are and to inspire that in them everyday.

I’ve got to stop trying to be someone I’m not. STOP trying to do business in a way that’s not truly ME! STOP trying to live my life that’s not truly ME! I am an artist! And I’ll always go back to that. But it’s not enough for me now to always “go back to art.” I AM art, I’m in art, I create art! I want to always be in it, and doing it, and not go through cycles where I’m not in it for a long period of time, and then have to go back to it. I AM an artist, a creator!

And… I have all these ideas to inspire others through my art for others to be true to themselves. I want the art on their walls to truly inspire who they are. The greatness of who they are, their personality, their energy script. Just like Carol Tuttle talks about in her book about our dress. The walls of our home too should inspire and naturally reflect our true selves.

For a long time one reason I’ve been resisting a business in art is because I didn’t see the true value in it for others, but now I do! For all the reasons stated above, I see a value in myself and in my art! Yay!

So… this website is going to be taking on some changes. So it can reflect what I’m all about. The look will change to something that is truly me and my personal brand that Quinn Curtis talks about. So look for those changes. And look for the art for sale that inspires you, and resonates with you. And buy it! :) So it can continue to inspire you in your own home, and on your own wall.

This is a wonderful post, Cynthia. It feels like you are taking a stand, and like a butterfly fighting your way out of the chrysalis to take flight. Love your example. Thank you for the inspiration. Seeing the drawings, I am wondering about your trip to Venice. Were you able to draw these on site, or did you do them from a photo later? Good work! Keep it up. You’re right about the length of time between doing art. I’ve had similar feelings. God Bless.
